DJ Lejla
Lejla moved to the United States in '93 as a refugee from war-torn
Bosnia. Despite many obstacles and immense responsibilities, she
graduated from UC Santa Cruz in 1998 and plans to continue her studies
towards a doctorate and fulfill her longtime dream of becoming a
marine biologist.
Since Lejla's extraordinary feats in the states, she has also taken
an
overwhelming interest in the arts after being introduced to House
music in 1995 at a legendary full moon party in the Santa Cruz Mountains
of California. She loved the way the basslines moved her and spent
countless hours dancing and watching the DJs perform their magic!
Once she acquired turntables in April of 1999, she began blowing
the minds of everyone who witnessed her spin and has been rocking
parties ever since! Lejla's style is an amazing blend of sexy deep
tribal and dark and dirty house mixed with technical precision.
Her signature sound is tribal funk and has been strongly influenced
by SF's greatest pioneer DJ's such as Tony, Jeno, Garth, Simon,
Rick Preston and Tracy. She has spun along side DJ greats such as
Simon, Spun, Joshua, Harry Who, Ellen Ferrato, Tracy, Charlotte
The Baroness and many others at 26 MiX, END UP, Amnesia, BIG LOVE
@ KZSU, and Livedjs.com in San Francisco.
Lejla recently relocated to New York City where she Co-founded,
along with MC Linzee, the NYC chapter of the infamous all-female
DJ crew "Sister SF", in April of 2002. Since moving to
New York she has landed gigs at Halcyon, Drinkland, Level X, Opaline
and True and her latest CD "Midnight Express" has been
blowing up radio stations abroad in Bosnia and Croatia. Lejla loves
to travel and has performed in Italy, at Club Juice in Florence
as well as Boca Chica in Viareggio. Lejla also has been invited
back to Italy and Bosnia in summer of 2003.
