Lady MC
Lady MC, Kerry-Anne, is a songwriter, vocalist, MC, UK Label Manager
for Rocco Recordings and MC Manager for Hipstep Sistaz (an affiliate
of Hipstep Massive in the USA).
The Beginning:
In 1995 Kerry-Anne commenced her career as an MC in the original
Club Labyrinth in East London, working alongside her inspiration,
MC Deemas J.
At 16, she competed in the Kool Skool Competition (award winning
Kool FM), where she battled against twelve other male and female
MC's, along-side Shy FX. The outcome was a draw between Lady MC
& MC Titch, the first female to win such a title.
Kerry-Anne continued to work as a MC in various clubs and venues
around the UK, establishing herself as an artist in the drum and
bass scene. Before reaching 18 years old, she performed at events
such as One Nation, Best of British and Dreamscape.
Channel Islands:
In 1998 she was booked for an event in Guernsey, in the Channel
Islands, to work alongside DJ Krome (Kool FM) and Deemas J. Lady
MC is now a recognized name throughout the Channel Islands, home
to Lady MC's partner, DJ, and very close friend, Dhanu.
Europe:
Aged 19, Kerry-Anne experienced her first bookings across Europe.
She traveled to Gerona, Spain, Kavos and Greece to work for various
promoters. Around this period of time she also worked alongside
DJ & Actor Rory Hannah (DJ Nash) and the Jungle Drummer, working
on a live band project "Amen Brothers". The band continued
for sometime at various events and shows throughout the UK.
Sister India:
In 2000, Kerry-Anne was head-hunted by a long-standing band Sister
India, who have worked closely with Kuch Kuch (Bollywood Scene)
for some ten years. This is a fully Asian band working on a delicately
selected mixture of bangra, trance, drum and bass, house and all
up-tempo beats. Lady MC, toured with the band in and around the
UK and Europe. Unfortunately, due to other tours and commitments,
she had to quit the band.
Performing in cities such as Germany, Belgium and Switzerland,
exposed Lady MC's talents. Her name was spreading across Europe,
not just as a band member and an MC, but as true performer.
USA:
In March 2001, Kerry-Anne attended the Miami WMC, which is when
she made her first American contacts. Through Zulu Nation's TC Izlam,
Lady MC was the female artist to become part of the Hipstep Movement.
In June 2001, Kerry-Anne started taking on bookings in NYC, at
events such as Cosmic Goddess and Koncrete Jungle. She worked for
numerous promoters across the East-Coast and held residencies at
Koncrete Jungle and Direct Drive.
During her stay in the USA, Lady MC also rapped alongside legendary
pioneers, Afrika Bambaata, Kool Herc, Skooly D, Prince Tafari (Zulu
Nation) and DJ Soul Slinger. Lady has also performed at Club Platinum
& La Tazza in Philadelphia.
Rocco Recordings:
In October 2002 Dhanu launched her record label "Rocco Recordings".
Kerry-Anne is the UK Manager for this label:
Current releases on Rocco Recordings are Hot Sh$t (Dhanu &
Embase ft. K-Loc) and soon to come, Foxy 2 Tails (Dhanu & Embase).
A further version of Hot Sh$t, which includes hip hop style vocals
from the likes of Lady MC and Prince Tafari, will be released on
Solid Vinyl later this year.
Hipstep Sistaz:
Mostly recently Lady MC has formed an alliance with partner Dhanu
(Guernsey) and Sammie Kane (USA), an affiliate of Hipstep Massive
USA called "Hipstep Sistaz", an organization to assist
in the promotion of female artists in drum & bass and hip hop
genres world-wide.
Solid Vinyl:
In the beginning of 2003, Lady MC meet the likes of Dorion Quest,
owner of Solid Vinyl, which has played a large part in getting Lady
MC's vocals and lyrics put out on vinyl. With four releases due
out this year, Lady MC is a name to listen out for.
Other artists that Lady MC works with within the Solid Vinyl family
are Five-O, The Ragga Twins, TC Izlam, Prince Tafari, Ed Solo, Lady
Cee, and Ragga Ranks, all of which attended the WMC Miami in 2003
to perform the Solid Vinyl showcase.
British TV Documentary:
Lady MC will soon appear on British Television in a documentary
which concentrates on a young lady who has been struggling through
a male dominated industry, namely the drum and bass industry. Lady
is followed by a film crew throughout her stay in Miami 2003. The
footage shows live performances and discussions that were raised
throughout her stay and includes meetings with other female artists
who have experienced the same struggles. This is due to be broadcast
before the next WMC in Miami.

Lady MC has two regular radio shows and regularly attends guest
