VJ Illya
In 2002 when Azariah Owens went on tour with Korn, Illya Cano became the {X} component of Mekanix. At the time Mekanix was the resident VJ at Respect drumandbass, a weekly club in Los Angeles, CA. While Azariah was on tour Illya kept the Mekanix name going strong, while developing her own mixing style in a well-projected club Thursday after Thursday. Promoters took noticed and asked her to bring her mixing skills to shows at the Knitting factory to mix along djs such as Calibre and High Contrast.
When Azariah returned he noticed the mixer he built for Illya needed some work but knew he was headed in the right direction, with some subtle suggestions from Illya Bloodymary was born.
Later Mekanix both {x} and {y} components became residents at The Unborn, an underground event that emphasizes on visuals as much as the Dj. Illya enjoys warping time and space, feeling as if she's molding reality into a surrealist film. Her organic eye for clips and mood show a keen sense of editing exposing beauty in all horror.
Recently she landed Mekanix a Pepsi commercial, a club scene that needed visuals. Using her live camera skills while Azariah did the mixing. Though she is her own Vj, as a duo they are a strong team.
