DJ Abby Norml
(the DJ formerly known as Con'fuschia '95 til 2002)
A brief herstory:
'89 experienced Acid Hou!
se @ an underground in Manhatten
(thought, "what i
s this all about and how do Iget more?!")
'92 ...Yep, I was a raver. Inspirations from the gods @ Aahz
and Sunday School- Orlando FL. Influences at the time: Rabbit in
the Moon, Kimball Collins, Andy Hughes, Chris Fortier, the Orb and
of course DeeLite.
'95 moved to San Diego and began learning to DJ. After a
couple years I put on my first events My Friends' Place (in honor
of my homelands ie: Simon's G'ville, FL) and Music for your Head.
MFYH was a downtempo and ambient (what I was mixing at the time)
weekly that ran over a year. Soon I was overcome by the bass.....
'98 began mixing more and more jungle/d&b sets. In '98
& again in 2001 put on and DJed a drum & bass/lo-tempo monthly
called Congregation (joined by the famous Goff Brothers & Brokenbe!
at
friends). We were lucky enough to share w/ the Basement Jaxx, Thunderball,
Sage, Empress, Current Value (Position Chrome, Germany), SubCode
and many others, along with our residents Tom B. and the occasional
Kojak along with the best drum & bass DJs in San Diego.
Stuff:
Warped Tour '98 (TX, AZ & CA), opening DJ for Moby/Boom Boom
Satellites, played mainroom/prime slot @ 611 Records' Summer Tour/AZ,
2001 Braindance (Reflex Rec.) Tour, 2001 Mush Recordings Tour @
the Casbah, CA.
I have also had the pleasure of playing alongside Sage, AlleyCat,
Polywog, the Empress, ReidSpeed, Jo-S, Hazen, Roxanne, Ras and TechItch
all who have given me inspiration and/or joy.
Favorite Labels (ever):
!
Certificate 18, Metalheadz, Rising High, LiquidSky, LGR/Good
Looking
and more than anything else, those weird & quirky lil' gems
that no one else finds.
Specialties:
*Ambient, experimental headtrips through sound
*Atmospheric and/or cerebral drum & bass
For the Future:
I hope to travel abroad to learn from and share with as many new
faces as I can that share a love for art and music; especially music
as art.
I want to help break down the genre barriers that limit the dance
community. Although I love the dancefloor, I strive to affect more
than just the physical plane with a unique, cerebral sound that's
everchanging...
People very often ask me if and when I will produce my own tunes.
I see that in the future, but I'm not in a huge r!
ush; there's still
so much to learn with my mixing. When it does happen, I see myself
being particularly drawn to soundtracking for independent filmmakers;
something more on the experimental tip.
